The students of EDU364 conducted a creative flyer project for a fictitious club they would like to run at a school. Multiple tools were used throughout the project to create an eye-catching flyer to attract members who might like to join the club. One tool used was SmartArt from Microsoft Word. SmartArt is a feature in Microsoft Word that allows you to create simple and effective visuals to organize information. One example is a graphic organizer. Another tool used was WordArt, which added outline, shadow, reflection and/or glow text effects to your flyer. These online tools can be used in the classroom at any grade level to conduct an informative and fun project for the students. One type of lesson that could incorporate SmartArt and WordArt is in reading. Students would be responsible for creating a graphic organizer based on the book we would be reading together as a class. They will have to identify the main idea, main characters, etc. Furthermore, the Computational Thinker standard in the ISTE standards would be achieved after the lesson is completed.
